Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about regenerative stem cell therapy and what to expect at GENIX.

About Stem Cell Therapy

What are mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)?

Mesenchymal stem cells are multipotent cells found in various tissues throughout the body. They have the ability to self-renew and may differentiate into multiple cell types. At GENIX, we use MSCs derived from Wharton's jelly, the connective tissue found in umbilical cords from healthy, screened donors.

Where do the stem cells come from?

Our stem cells are derived from Wharton's jelly, which is the connective tissue in umbilical cords. All tissue is ethically donated with full informed consent from healthy, screened mothers after cesarean delivery. No embryonic or fetal tissue is used.

Are stem cell treatments FDA approved?

The regenerative or stem cell therapies offered are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, our cell products are obtained from FDA-registered facilities, and we follow strict quality control protocols including sterility testing and cell characterization.

How is this different from embryonic stem cells?

We use adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from umbilical cord tissue, not embryonic stem cells. Umbilical cord tissue is collected after birth and would otherwise be discarded. This source raises no ethical concerns about embryonic tissue.

About the Treatment

What conditions do you treat?

We treat orthopedic conditions, pain management cases, and certain wound care situations. This includes joint pain (knee, hip, shoulder, ankle), back and spine conditions, and soft tissue injuries affecting tendons and ligaments. We do not offer treatments for anti-aging, aesthetic purposes, or general wellness.

How is the treatment performed?

Stem cell injections are performed using image guidance (ultrasound or fluoroscopy) to ensure precise delivery to the target tissue. The procedure is minimally invasive and typically performed on an outpatient basis. Local anesthesia is used, and sedation is available for spinal procedures.

How long does the procedure take?

The injection itself typically takes 30-60 minutes. However, you should plan to be at our facility for 2-4 hours including preparation, the procedure, and recovery time.

Is the treatment painful?

Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area, and most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. For spinal procedures, sedation is available. Some patients experience mild soreness at the injection site for a few days afterward.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients receive a single treatment, though some conditions may benefit from additional sessions. During your consultation, we'll discuss the recommended treatment protocol for your specific condition.

Results & Recovery

When will I see results?

Results vary significantly between patients. Some notice improvement within weeks, while others may take several months. Regenerative therapy works by supporting the body's natural healing processes, which takes time. Results are not guaranteed.

What is the success rate?

We cannot quote specific success rates as individual responses vary considerably based on the condition being treated, its severity, and patient-specific factors. During your consultation, we'll discuss realistic expectations for your situation.

How long do the effects last?

The duration of benefit varies by patient and condition. Some patients experience lasting improvement, while others may benefit from repeat treatment. We provide ongoing follow-up to monitor your progress.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients can return to light activities within a few days. Full recovery and return to normal activities typically occurs over several weeks, depending on the procedure and your specific situation. We provide detailed aftercare instructions.

Are there any side effects?

Common side effects are typically mild and temporary, including soreness at the injection site, mild swelling, or temporary increase in pain. Serious complications are rare. All potential risks are discussed during the informed consent process.

Candidacy & Consultation

Am I a candidate for stem cell therapy?

Candidacy depends on your specific condition, medical history, and treatment goals. Generally, patients with mild to moderate joint or soft tissue conditions who haven't responded to conservative treatment may be candidates. A consultation is required to determine if this treatment is appropriate for you.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Please bring any relevant imaging (X-rays, MRIs), a list of your current medications, your medical history, and any questions you have about the treatment. This helps us provide the most thorough evaluation.

Do you accept insurance?

Regenerative stem cell treatments are generally not covered by insurance. All services are self-pay. We can discuss payment options and potential financing during your consultation.

How much does treatment cost?

Treatment costs vary based on the procedure type and areas being treated. We provide detailed pricing during your consultation after evaluating your specific needs. We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Our Facilities

Where are your facilities located?

We have three South Florida locations: Miami Regional Surgical Center (Kendall), Hollywood Regional Surgical Center, and STEMS Health Practice (Miami Beach). The appropriate facility depends on your specific procedure needs.

Which facility will my procedure be at?

Joint and soft tissue injections using ultrasound guidance can be performed at any location. Spinal procedures requiring fluoroscopy are performed at our Miami Regional or Hollywood surgical centers. We'll determine the appropriate location based on your treatment plan.

Are your facilities accredited?

Our surgical centers meet rigorous accreditation standards for ambulatory surgical care. Our cell products are processed in ISO 14644-1 certified laboratory environments with comprehensive quality control testing.
